The North Island of New Zealand has two of the country’s largest cities, Auckland and Wellington. Auckland, the ‘City of Sails’, is surrounded by harbours and the Waitakere Ranges.
Wellington is considered to be the arts and cultural centre of New Zealand. The North Island has more volcanic activity than the south, giving the region its famous hot springs, hot mud pools and Mount Ruapehu, the largest active volcano in New Zealand.
